“Rīgas satiksme” starts code ticket usability tests
“Rīgas satiksme” informs that upon expansion of possibilities of purchasing and using public transport tickets, a certain group of users started code ticket usability tests with the purpose to check the usability of the new type of tickets in real conditions, which includes activating and controlling the ticket in the transport vehicle.
In order to test the functional operation and use of the code ticket and to identify and eliminate possible technological errors, a test of the usability of the code ticket was started this week. Code ticket usability tests will initially take place on the bus route No. 22 and tram route No. 7, and the first tests will be performed by “Rīgas satiksme” employees, because it is very important to check in the very beginning how code tickets work and how they are controlled. The first phase of usability tests is expected to last a couple of weeks. Whereas, after the end of the first stage, the number of transport vehicles in which code ticket tests are performed, as well as the number of testers will be expanded, thereby the usability of the code ticket at different times and in different routes will be checked. The usability tests are scheduled to end at the end of May.
What is a code ticket?
The code ticket will be a new payment method in “Rīgas satiksme” public transport, which will allow customers to pay for the trips online with a smartphone. The code ticket will operate alongside with the existing e-ticket system. To use the code ticket, customers will need to install a mobile app on their smartphone. In this app, you will be able to purchase a one-time travel ticket online and use it by activating it in the public vehicle passenger compartment, where a square code identifier unique for each vehicle will be located. If a ticket controller enters the transport vehicle, the passenger will open the app where the activated ticket will be displayed and present it to the controller.
The development of the code ticket platform was launched at the end of 2020 and it is being developed as an open system so that the sale of such tickets can be ensured by the widest possible range of service providers (sellers).
